Mike, I would definitely be interested in learning more about Trend Following Conference in Asia dates, time and agenda. Also, I think a great guest would be Tom Dorsey from Dorsey Wright & Associates. He started his career as a stock broker with Merrill back in the early 70’s, ran an options dept then started his own company back in 1987. Tom has traveled the world and has met lots of great people and has incredible stories. His company provides guidance for advisers, institutions, hedge funds around the world. Based on Point & Figure applications and Relative Strength (all related to Trend Following).

Where Did All the Money Go?

Michael, is the last black swan the next black swan? Please have an expert on your show to explain where are all those toxic assets (CDOs, collateral debt obligations, or mortgage backed securities) are now? They caused the crash (2008), so where are they? The Fed buys some every month apparently, but where the heck are they all and whose balance sheets are they on? Banks, taxpayer? What could they do to the economy now or in the future? Did they just disappear or get absolved somehow?

Don’t Try and Compare Capital

Hi Michael, my name is Charlie, I’m writing to You from Poland, Central Europe, nearly 300 km from the Vilnius you were talking about in Your recent podcast. BTW Your surname ‘Covel’ is probably Polish and Lithuanian ‘kowal’, which is…a blacksmith. I’ve read Your books and I really like the idea of trend following, I’m using that technique on Warsaw Stock Exchange for years and US market for past 7 months. My TWR is 22,5% with max. drawdown -2,69%. I wanted to ask uou a question: in your opinion how big [of a] portfolio (in USD) has an average US citizen, who is about 30-35 years old, after higher education, working in a big private business (banks, big industry companies)? Is it approximately 50k USD, 100k USD or maybe 500k USD? I’m just looking for an opinion, I’m not interested in averages, statistics and so on. I’m just wondering what is the difference in size of portfolio between a well-educated and let’s say successful guy in central Europe and USA. Thanks in advance for Your reply

Research participants who had spent just 15 minutes in “mindfulness” meditation, focusing on their breathing, were 77% more likely than others to resist what’s known as the “sunk-cost bias,” the tendency to stick with a less-than-optimal strategy merely because a lot of money has been sunk into it, says a team led by Andrew C. Hafenbrack of Insead business school in France. In a fictional scenario, the participants had to decide whether to buy a highly efficient $10,000 machine shortly after spending $200,000 on equipment that was much less efficient (and couldn’t be sold). Meditation’s impact on the sunk-cost bias may have to do with its ability to improve mood and decrease people’s focus on the future and past, the researchers suggest.

Trend Following in Bulgaria

Dear Mr. Covel, My name is [name] and I am Assistant professor in Investments at Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Sofia University in Bulgaria. I am also a portfolio manager, trader and since last year – sole publisher of books on investments. In 2012 and 2013 with the help of some friends (traders) I organized [seminars here]. These seminars were open to anybody in Bulgaria, willing to hear from professionals how to trade and to follow the trend. One of the lecturers last year [name] suggested to us your book The Complete TurtleTrader. I read it and I liked it very much. And I thought that it will be a good idea if I translate it and publish it in Bulgaria (there are people, who trade or would like to trade, but do not know enough English to read it). I saw on your website that you have other books too. So, I am writing to you to ask you if you would like to sell the rights to translate in Bulgarian and publish your books (or at least one of them) in Bulgaria? Also, would you like to participate on the next Trend Following seminar as lecturer? The seminar will be most likely in April this year. The lectures are done by Skype call.
