Thank you for your Trend Following Podcasts and for connecting with me on Facebook!

I now need to get your books too, will be looking to order online or through the local book store…..if they are good enough to have them!

Trend following was never in my vocabulary as a Trader, and over the last 5-6 years that is evident as I am WAY behind the 8 ball to the point I actually gave up trading altogether for a while. From your interviews so far and past experience of your guests, wow, I really missed out there…. and the story and experience of the TurtleTraders, wow, I would love to look more into that too!

I believe everything happens for a reason and there is huge value for me in your podcasts, I started at No1 and currently just got through No11 with Tim Pickering (I am also trying to connect with these Legends you have brought on the show because I believe it too that a Google search for understanding is not the ideal way) – Not that I will be a nuisance to them but rather to enjoy the connection!

I look forward to getting to know you better over the coming months and years and really adopt the practices and ideas you bring out on your show, please keep them coming and I look forward to sharing my success with you in the near future as a I know you will be a great mentor to me.

After knocking out a ton of the first 200 episodes to get the basics of trend following and implementing my own strategy based upon those lessons, in the next 300 or so I started cherry picking the lifestyle episodes. I wanted to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed them, despite not being financial. Meditation, bright line eating, the practicing mind, flow, the Basecamp guy, Tuft and Needle mattresses, mental toughness, Olympic shooting, pre-suasion, cyber security, feng shui, memory techniques, personal safety, chess grandmasters, Ayn Rand, Tim Ferris et all, have all been very interesting. I’ve even read several of the books after hearing the podcasts.

Keep up the good work, and feel free to keep tossing such episodes in. They’re great. Also, you should do an in-depth yoga episode. Or two.

I just wanted thank you for your work and your dedication.

I listened to two of your audiobooks (Turtletrader & Trend Following) and now follow your podcast. I just finished listening to Sunday’s podcast with Peter Borish and I felt compelled to just send you a short thank you. I’ve always wanted to pursue trading professionally (long story, have a connection to one of those famous traders you’ve mentioned in your work) and I’m finally in a space where I can trade from a retail account. I’ve been trying to figure out what I should do next and your interviews have helped me rethink what my options are as a person with the passion for markets but not working in the space exclusively. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you and let you know if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. I’ll work for free, if you need an extra pair of eyes to review some writing or something else. I’m not where I want to be but I wouldn’t be where I am now if it weren’t for all the people who gave their time freely to help me and I want to pay it forward.

I enjoy your podcasts, I’ve been a regular listener for the past 2-3 years. You put a lot of care into each episode, and it shows. I’m curious for some behind-the-scenes details in your preparation. Do you write a podcast script? If so, how detailed is it (paragraphs, bullets, etc)? It doesn’t sound like you’re reading from a card or just winging it. How do you strike that balance?

I have 1 page of notes for an interview. But these days I feel like I use less and less. Monologues? In past I might have had a page of notes, but these days I ponder the issue, turn recorder on and go. It’s technically winging it, but when you do it for so long it’s not really winging it.

The Sunstein interview should be wrapped up and sent to the podcast Hall of Fame. I have a copy of Nudge sitting on my shelf and will read it soon, before reading the latest book from Sunstein. Have you read any of Nomi Prins’ work? She writes about the relationship between central banks, bankers, wall street, and politicians. She would be a great interview. Just a suggestion.

Why did you like Cass one so much?

I studied the sociology of ideology at UC Berkeley and I’m fascinated by the approach neuroscientists take regarding how we arrive at political opinions, issues of morality, partisan divide, etc. Sunstein’s approach enables me to use relevant, empirical terms so I can explain my position/opinion on matters without losing sight of someone else’s. It keeps conversations civil, and fosters stimulating debate and diversity of opinion in these divided times. Kahneman is also a good teacher in this regard, and so is Jonathan Haidt, who wrote “The Righteous Mind,” (one of the best social science books of the past decade).

I live in Berkeley, a hotbed of not only “radicalism”, but liberal elitism: folks who read the NYT & Krugman and keep their radio dial tuned to NPR for their daily dose of confirmation bias. Its disheartening when educated folks are so bloated with political correctness that they simply cannot understand different perspectives on how the world works. Sunstein, et al, assist me in coping with this in my daily life.

“Do you have any general advice?”

Hi Michael, I’m wondering if you have any general advice for someone striving to build some secondary income sources.

The reason I’m asking you is because you’ve built up your own website, written your own books and built up your own website.

My vision is to become a trend following trader, having a website and write some books. The trend following part is actually the easy bit since it only takes capital and a back-tested strategy. The hard part is the income source that could finance continuous saving.

So on the subject of building up some kind of platform, which you obviously are a master at, do you have any general advice? It can be hard to know where to start before putting in all the hours.

Apologies for the strange title just thought it would stand out in your inbox.

Half way through your audiobook of Trend Following. Actually bought your book a while ago and had every intention of reading them.

I am on board, I certainly had a mind shift from listening to your audiobook. If you don’t mind me drawing a parallel to religion I have looked at every type of investing as a religion, “that one is wrong, this is the true way” and the answer is similar to my religious outlook, I am atheist in that area and I am now an atheist in my investment outlook.

So to sum up, thanks. I consume your podcasts when they come out and am enjoying your books.

I am looking for successful trend traders in Australia also. And given I live in Melbourne looking at starting a group Meetup for like minded trend traders.

If your ever in Melbourne I owe you lunch.
