“Been listening to you for years Michael…”

Feedback in:

That was awesome. Thank you.

The Friedman episode? Why?

I didn’t know Friedman heading in. Whereas most of your guests are agreeable, this one was disagreeable. Disagreeable is more entertaining. I find myself leaning in and listening more closely when there is disagreement. The buildup was most fascinating. One of those “you have to listen to twice” to fully appreciate your prep, plan, and execution. Like a great movie with a twist at the end you didn’t see coming. The first time I listened, I didn’t notice much contention up until the stop and frisk question. Then I screamed out loud when he defended De Blasio. I imagine that was one of your toughest “bite your tongue” moments. I certainly didn’t bite mine listening in the car. You somehow remained poised. After relistening, I recognize you incrementally needling with each additional poignant question, as well as his dodging in answering with substance. In retrospect, the turning point was when he referred to you making a statement rather than asking a question. The “blacks killing blacks” part was clearly the ultimate trigger. I suspect he would have dodged it regardless if phrased differently. I wonder if he has ever been broached with the question and he was uncomfortable articulating his point of view, or if it completely caught him off guard. Was it one of his “no go” questions? Curious what other “no go’s” there were. Been listening to you for years Michael. Not only have you helped me become a great trader, we conveniently share the same value system. The times I disagree with you are not few and far between, they are never. Personal responsibility and data.

Thanks!

“You’ve got a good podcast and I look forward to the new ones…”

Feedback on a recent podcast episode:

Michael,

I came across your podcast by chance about 2 weeks ago and have listened to about 30 of them since (at 1.5x the speed). Your interviewing style is very good. You let the guest speak without constantly interrupting them. Your questions are well thought out and researched yet still “conversationalist”. Very much enjoy the variety of guests especially the one with Jack Canfield. The last one with Howard Friedman was….interesting. If he thinks that your question/comment was racist, would he have said the same if the data suggested that instead of black men, killers were women? Or gays? Or transgender? Or disabled? Or White? Or ? (and I am a minority…non-white). Data rarely lies. As a professional, he should have continued the discussion. Even before the surprise ending, I found Howard distant and not so engaging as other guests. You’ve got a good podcast and I look forward to the new ones….in the meantime, I am making my way through your large library.

Continued good luck from Canada,

S. Sethi

Thanks.

“The biggest challenge for me was/is organizing the data…”

Feedback in:

I bought Trend Following years ago (2007? 2008?) but was never able to get rolling. The biggest challenge for me was/is organizing the data. I downloaded a bunch of historical data for (mostly) stocks into a spreadsheet. Then I tried to keep them updated – but there were too many and I couldn’t stay current for any length of time. That process needed to be more automated and I couldn’t get there. I’d look at/graph the historical price movements and try to see trends but never felt comfortable enough with it to actually make a trade. Now I’m retired and stuck in the house (Covid-19) so I think I might actually have the hours required to get up to speed. As I recall I felt I needed a few weeks of dedicated time, minimum, to get on top of a list. So thought I would try to re-familiarize myself with what I need to do. I’m ready to go – but unsure what direction to head….

“Knowing that process is always more important than outcome…”

Feedback in:

Reminding myself that price and value converge over the long-term but realizing that sometimes long-term is sometimes longer than I expect. (My version of JMK quote). Knowing that process is always more important than the outcome and that the market knows a lot more than any individual participant.

Why does a trend follower need to worry about “value“?

“I’m trying to execute trend following trading and struggling…”

Feedback in:

Hi Michael,

I listen to many of your podcasts. And enjoy them. I’m trying to execute trend following trading and struggling. I start the day following my plan and then get sloppy. I know what I need to do but always find a reason not to. Overconfidence, no stops, move stops. Revenge Trades. Disaster. Trying to get my head right. Read the Turtles. Read Trading In The Zone. Use OTA supply zones/ demand zones. Use NexgenT3 for day trading. Have many good days. But the bad ones are really bad. Like the last 2 days being short on CL.

Look forward to your training.

Steve M.

What you describe is not trend following. No day trading. This is trend following.
