“Another big challenge is sticking to the system when I’m seeing only very small returns…”

Feedback in:

Hi Michael,

My biggest challenge in trading is the size of my equity and what type of security to trade. Because I only have 2000 dollars to trade with and not enough to trade futures I started with ETFs. However, it is very slow going because the leverage isn’t as good as commodities. Even when I have a winning trade it sometimes barely makes enough to offset commissions.

I am thinking of focusing on stocks for trend following due to the higher upside, or use leaps, until I have enough to trade mini futures.

I guess another big challenge is sticking to the system when I’m seeing only very small returns at the moment and waiting for those outlier moves.

Other than that I love the podcast content and enjoy the message you promote.

Thank you,
Mitch T.

My guest today is Andrew Strasman, an experienced trend following trader with a background in the financial industry. Currently associated with Totem Asset Group as a commodity trading advisor, he began his journey in Chicago’s trading circles in the 1990s and later joined DRW Trading. Andrew’s trading philosophy centers on exploratory bets, a concept he embraced after a significant revelation in his career. He places a strong emphasis on disciplined trading, rigorous risk management, and maintaining ambivalence about individual trade outcomes, underlining the significance of adequate capitalization for trading success.

The topic is Trend Following.

“I’m clueless on where to look and how to look for getting more trading money…”

Feedback in:

Hi Mr. Covel,

Thank you for all your efforts to introduce the mindset for trend following ideas. I’m currently internalising the fact the I will never catch the most profit number showing on my PnL. I’ve come a lot far in my trading journey and I just wanted to reach out and offer you my gratitude.

I’m from India and I follow price momentum trends on Indian stocks. It is not yet as much liquid as USA stock market. I’m about to hit 24 and after finishing college degree in economics, I’m living and breathing stock market. I’ve been profitable for a year now and I’m at the stage where I want to raise my trading size. And, this is where the problem starts. In India, it is hard, very hard to get funded. Plus I come from a humble background, I lack connection as I’m from a small city and everything. I hope you will get the following points – developing country, stock market is gambling, not much savings in smaller cities to ask for funding, have to pass some exams and register with Securities exchange board of India (SEBI) to manage funds and gotta have to have a significant net worth just to start a fund and all. On top of that, I don’t really want to be an institution trader. I want to be an independent trader.

To be honest, I’m clueless on where to look and how to look for getting more trading money. All I know that I have my mythology that gives me “which”, “where” and “how much” questions of trading along with trade management.

If you think you know any people or any organization who can analyze my trading data and then fund me or at least hire me to trade Indian Market for them, it will be a huge help for me.

I’m sorry to asking you this, this way. Kindly consider this approach as my hunger.

Thank you for reading this email. Looking forward for your advice on my situation.

“I have had some profitable trades but my losses far outweigh my wins…”

Feedback in:

Hi Michael,

I have been trading futures for about two years with little success. I have had some profitable trades but my losses far outweigh my wins. I have been trading with a friend who got me into trading futures and my trades have been based on following his lead. I have read and listened to all of the Market Wizards books and in doing so, I have figured out I need a trading style that “fits me”. The biggest challenge for me has been finding a trading style or “edge” to trade effectively. I recently purchased your book, The Complete Turtle Trader, and it has really hit home. I am looking for a set of rules to trade with that will take the guess work out of entering and exiting a trade. I believe that trading with a set of rules suits my personality, and I am eager to dive into your trend following methods.

Thank you for your time and the sharing of your knowledge. I look forward to your response and to a long profitable journey of trend following.

“I’ve even gone the funded trader route having passed the evaluations, received pay outs and…”

Feedback in:

Hey Michael,

First off, please excuse my casualness in this email, but I’m just ready for a change. I’ve got to say, “The Complete Turtle Trader” was a game-changer for me. It’s how I first learned about you Mr. Covel and the incredible work you’ve done.

I’m a futures trader, mostly dabbling in the indices. Had some big wins and some big losses, and man, it’s been a got damn roller coaster. I’ve been primarily self-taught, navigating through the vast sea of trading books and endless YouTube tutorials. And while I’ve tasted some success in the industry, it’s damn frustrating how I always end up giving those hard-earned wins back. It’s like taking two steps forward and then, somehow, three steps back. I’ve even gone the funded trader route having passed the evaluations, received pay outs and then eventually somehow still blowing accounts. I’m sure everything I’m saying you’ve heard it all before, which is why I genuinely believe you can help. I’m not a quitter, I’ll die before I quit on my dream and for whatever reason trading seems to be a big part of it.

I’m 38 now, and honestly, I’m ready to level the f^$% up. I just found out about your flagship course and something inside is telling me it might just be the missing piece in my trading puzzle or I could just be a little left of center, but I seriously doubt it. Maybe it’s time for some structured guidance, you know?

Would love to hear your thoughts and any advice you might have for someone in my shoes.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I’m genuinely looking forward to diving deep into what your course has to offer. And no, I did not write this email for the “twist my arm discount”. I wrote because I’m genuinely interested in your feedback. I do not care about the discount.

All the best,
CJ A.
