Good evening,

My short answer is that I do not use a specific, objective trading system and so I consistently have inconsistent results… an understatement.

I have always had an interest in the markets, but coming from a St. Louis blue-collar family, I felt that the markets were only for the rich. However, since college in the early ’90s, I have played some in the markets over the years, at times spending hours and hours of reading and researching due to my never-ending interest. My current career is in the medical arena and I am beginning to plan my desired 2nd career. I found your podcasts this weekend (I’m on #5) because I again read one of the first trading books I ever purchased, Market Wizards. The story of Richard Dennis and the Turtles led me to you. Given today’s market, it will be fascinating to get caught up on your podcasts. I also purchased The Complete TurtleTrader today.

Hi Michael,

My biggest problem that I’m trying to get my head around… how to get away from buy and hold? The market crashes, I buy. Then it crashed more. If I didn’t buy, it would go up and I’d miss out. My gut tells me buy and hold is wrong and there must be something better, but finding it consistently is, well it hasn’t happened.

Waiting for a market crash to buy and hold is not buy and hold. That’s once in a lifetime bottom fishing and you might get the timing wrong. Read.

Hi Michael,

I got a question or two.

After sustained efforts, I finally seem to be getting better with my trading. I use chart patterns aside from Elliott waves. I have a quest for learning new things. (I learned swimming when I turned fifty…not being proud just demonstrating that I am open to learning new skills and concepts).

My questions do I have to unlearn or give up what I already practice? If required, I can ring-fence a certain trading account to strictly follow your time tested rules and not apply my own judgment on top of it. I haven’t given it much thought, but it’s a consideration weighing in my mind.

How many hours or days or weeks of reading and listening be required to fully grasp what you teach in those manuals and videos.

Lastly, the software that I get as part of flagship/ standard product: is it a stand-alone trading software or is it only for calculations? It may require real-time data feeds, isn’t it? I am just wondering what’s the impact on my existing data subscriptions and charting software.

I am glad to know there’s someone like you. I’ll like to see you in person or at least chat with you over the phone someday.

There are a plethora of trading strategies which I have tried to implement but I become overwhelmed with the amount of information I read on and eventually, I cannot decide which strategy to stick to.

Lacking a system is my biggest challenge.

I’ve done discretionary trading with mixed results but have experimented with a simplified trend following in my 401k with mutual funds using a weekly chart.

It got me out of the market completely 2 weeks ago (thank God!) and the last two prior years got me 20% plus just using Fidelity 500 Index fund.

Since it got me out of trouble I’ve been thinking about doing a deep dive into system development with trend trading as the cornerstone.

Can you adjust/customize trend trading to suit your needs? I don’t think I could stomach a serious drawdown at my age (51).

After a half a decade journey from a bizarre podcast journey with [crazy person] talking about [name] for President, stumbling onto your podcast from there, picking up all your books, delving into your reading list, and finally taking the plunge with your Flagship Strategy course I wanted to say thank you for creating a learning path to help me change my life.

I have now been fully engaged as a trend following trader as my sole profession for over two and a half years. I put in the hours and work to suit a trend following system to my risk tolerance and long-term time preference, but recently it has shown its’ robustness in the face of the “black swan” events that have made up 2020 thus far. This week was another reminder of how truly robust trend following is in the face of conventional and tail risk-blind equity-focused strategies.
