“The biggest mistake in my personal trading history was following a counter-trend thesis…”

Feedback in:

The biggest mistake in my personal trading history was following a counter-trend thesis to the great detriment of my capital. I’ve learned a lot since, and have developed a trend trading method. I am here to collect additional knowledge.

Thanks,

Dave K

I can help.

I’d like to say a few words about “where I’m at”, I’m sure you’ve heard it all before. Not to sound cocky, but I am familiar with the info in the intro. My problem now is psychology after losing most of my trading capital. I know it’s possible to trade any time frame with a trend approach, I’m curious about your perspective on that. I’ve also lost tolerance for drawdown and consequently entering existing trends is difficult for me. Basically, I break even on most trades. Using my template I feel I get pretty close to turns, but turns don’t come along all that often unless day trading on very short time frames. I am currently paper trading that idea and it seems to be coming along. I’ve known about you for years, well before becoming a trend trader, a years-long process that is now reaching a pretty good stage I think. But I want to double-check my thinking and tighten up my method as much as I can, which is why I’m here.
thanks!

Dave K

“I too often let my losers run and cut my winners short to show a profit…”

Feedback in:

Funny, I wrote a course called ‘What is Enough?’ back in 2010. It was based on some of the work by Joe Dominguez in ‘Your Money or Your Life’ It’s been used to this day but I hadn’t updated it and folks were asking me to bring it all current.

I originally included your movie ‘Broke – The New American Dream‘ in that course as a recommended part of the homework in the first class. It’s very hard to find now. I have a copy I bought on Amazon in February or 2010, but there aren’t any easy ways to stream it today that I can find. Anyway that’s part of the updating process.

While working on the course I found you searching for a streaming copy of the movie. It seems really relevant now. Always fascinated by the synchronicity. I’d read The Complete TurtleTrader years ago, but didn’t remember you as the author. I saw your newsletter tonight while doing some research and decided to sign up–that’s the question you didn’t ask.

Now to answer your question: What is your biggest challenge you have faced with your Trading? Fear of losing. I too often let my losers run and cut my winners short to show a profit. I’ve been trading since 2008 and that’s been the most difficult habit I’ve struggled with.

Regards,

Todd

“My biggest concern so far is how to pick the stock you want to study and trade…”

Feedback in:

Hi Michael,

So far, my biggest challenge is how to. I’m only starting to get into it and I’d rather educate myself first and then enter the markets with some knowledge of what is happening, why, how to react, and how to. I’ve been studying many books and watched lots of videos too, mostly studied trader and market behavior and psychology, some technical analysis, starting on money management, starting on creating my trading system too. My biggest concern so far is how to pick the stock you want to study and trade.

Thanks for reading!

What about a portfolio? One stock alone will not cut it.
