“Do you provide a step by step guide for setting this up? I’m an intermediate level at excel…”

Feedback in:

Let’s say I wish to implement the systems using excel, do you provide a step by step guide for setting this up? I’m an intermediate level at excel but by no means an excel whizz – is it an easy process?
Let’s say I wish to implement the systems using 3rd party software, which software do you recommend?

How often (if ever) have you/ do you tweak the trend-following-rules?

I don’t supply code or teach coding (read). I provide rules you can use with paper/pen (not best plan) or rules you can code into an untold number of different platforms. I do help clients with third party ideas, but there will be platforms that I’m unfamiliar with that can work too.

“Biggest challenge? Decoding the language of the charts, which the high flying Big Boys clearly can read…”

Feedback in:

Thanks, Michael. Biggest challenge? Decoding the language of the charts, which the high flying Big Boys clearly can read, but those of us at lower altitudes scratch our heads in wonder (and seek the next magical indicator). Personally, I work with mostly naked charts now. I just learned of your story on the Turtle Traders and wanted to dig deeper.

What if I told you the “high flying big boys” are not “reading” charts and that the idea of reading charts to supposedly know direction was invented to fool the little guy?

True.

“My biggest challenge when it comes to trading would be staying profitable…”

Feedback in:

My biggest challenge when it comes to trading would be staying profitable. I have been trading options and stocks for a little over a year now, and my PnL has stayed pretty much flat. I am not losing much, which is good, but I do not let my winning positions run. I would like to work on this and improve my trading skills.

What is your strategy?

I am listening to your audiobook (The Complete TurtleTrader) currently as I write this message. I enjoyed the format of the audiobook! I am a huge fan, and excited to listen to your other books! Keep up the great work! Lastly, what was your biggest challenge when learning how to trade and how did you overcome it?

How to learn from the great ones? My challenge. I knocked on their doors.

Good morning Mike,

My strategy is trading intra-day breaks and other areas of support and resistance that I have identified on larger time frames. Additionally, I want the market to be trending in the same direction as my trading plan, and I want to see either aggressive buying or selling on the tape for confirmation to enter a trade. Your story is very encouraging! I think you are correct, finding someone who has already accomplished something you want to achieve and then learning from that person is the most efficient way to achieving a desirable outcome.

Best regards,

Brad

“…intra-day breaks and other areas of support and resistance…” is a dead end.

“My biggest challenge as an individual investor is to “finalize” my investment strategy, which implies navigating though the various stock market…”

Feedback in:

Hi M. Covel,

Thank you for reading this.

My biggest challenge as an individual investor is to “finalize” my investment strategy, which implies navigating though the various stock market investing philosophies / techniques, from value-oriented such as Lynch, Buffet, O’Shaughnessy to more technical styles including yours. I was naturally inclined toward value due to my personality and my profession (engineering); yet my so-so profits added with my appetite for a better understanding of the stock market make me open not only to continuous improvement, but also to a deep review of my investing strategy.

I bought ‘Trend Following’ and I am currently reading it. I also started listening to your podcasts with great curiosity. I have introduced myself to technical analysis by following Steve Burns.

Your feedback will be much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Guy S

Two points:

1. I don’t see how value and trend following combine in one system.

2. Traditional TA is nonsense.
