Hi Michael.
I’ve been “following” your work for many years having purchased all your books and listened to most of your podcasts. I consider myself a Trend Follower. After watching the video, I employed one of your favorite mantras – trust but verify. In other words, Take Action as you recommended. Therefore, I picked up a copy of this week’s Barron’s magazine to review its contents. Full disclosure, it’s been a long time since I’ve read Barron’s.
Here is what I found:
The magazine cover attempts to titillate with predictions for 2024 (see first attachment). This includes various market forecasts from six “Market Strategists.” All conjecture on their parts.
Then I looked at the Content page which listed 18 feature articles (see second attachment). I read all 18 articles and with one exception they featured some type of expert prognostication. There was one article about IRA/401k RMD’s which was educational in nature and informative. The other 17, just guesswork.
Finally, there was an article where at first glance I thought might be a reference to Trend Following – Headline “I’m bravely following the bullish crowd” (see third attachment). But alas, it was about the Cloud, AI, Cap Ex, Cash Flow, Earnings, etc. No real Trend Following to be found in the write-up.
In summary, my acquired Trend Following mindset (many thanks to you) allowed me to see that this magazine was just another slick Wall Street marketing tool like the many others which you mentioned in your video. Fifteen years ago, without a Trend Following lens, I would not really have understood that.
Yes, I utilize a Trend Follow approach to my trading and have enjoyed success even over some recent turbulent times. I’m also proud to say that I’ve been able to impart a Trend Following mindset to my adult children as they manage their portfolios.
