Hi Michael,

Just tuned into your podcast 1057. Wow, you do say it as it is and I love the fact that you don’t take any prisoners.

After years of trading, I am no closer to the goal that I set for myself regarding financial freedom. Of course, I have done some good trades over time however I now realize (mainly after reading your words in your books) that I perhaps am my own worst enemy by not understanding the concept of trend. I was simply in and out of trades and didn’t allow the trend to work its magic in my favour.

I would very much enjoy receiving the right steps to take regarding trend following and also your video you spoke about.

A recent email exchange with a client:

Client: How is everything? I had a question about choosing a business model… Is it possible to be a home base CTA and manage it virtually?

Covel: What do you mean?

Client: I was reading the “How to become a CTA” article in dropbox. It says you can save huge amounts of money by starting the business out of your home. I was wondering if that is actually realistic…

Covel: Why does the physical location matter?

Client: I don’t think it should matter, and I don’t think people would really care as long as the track record was good and they’re making money. I was just thinking… what if I’m able to raise a 1-2 million in my first year and clients know I’m managing the money at HOME. Just thinking about their reaction and wondering if I would lose credibility. That is more the negative side though, some people may think it’s pretty cool.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your email. Trend following has piqued my interest and I’m continuing to learn more through your podcasts and books. I’m also not a techy-programming kind of guy but I started learning more about excel and bought some excel courses that I’ve started working my way through. So thanks for the inspiration on that because I’ve been wanting to learn excel for a while and you helped me push forward with this goal.

I had a couple of follow up questions:

1. I’m assuming trend following will work on CFD’s as it does on futures? Say if I want to Trend Trade with brokerages like Oanda, IG Markets or VantageFX. I’m assuming the principles and results should be consistent?

2. The brokerages listed above all use either MT4 or MT5, which is very popular for trading robots. Can I use MT4 and MT5 programming language to program Trend Following programs and run them in Metatrader? I’m thinking if I can use Excel, then I should be able to also use the MetaTrader Language – just want to double-check before I invest time in learning this type of programming.

3. Does everyone who purchases your course trade the same system/rules? Are they getting the same results? Where does the customization come into play, and how does that affect the results?

1. Why CFDs? Read.

2. On software? Read. Trend following rules can be used on Excel.

3. People are not robots. Differing results will come from entry, risk management and portfolio selection variation. That’s normal. Big picture results will be similar, but this is not thousands of people trading the exact same rules at the exact same moment.

Been listening [to your podcast] about 6 months. Started at #1. Just hit #500. What’s that, about 500 hours? 30,000 minutes. What’s the equivalent of that in books? At least 50. I’ll catch up to current by summer! I know it’s about to get real good because the 2016 election is about to happen. BTW, I worked on Buddy Roemer’s campaign in 2012. He ran for president on one issue: getting big money out of politics. He only accepted $100 donations, which is why he got nowhere. I wish I’d known about you then. He would have made a great guest. He passed late last year. Good guy who I think you would have aligned with on many issues. I look forward to listening to the rest. I still think I loved those early episodes with Mike Shell and Jim Rohrbach episodes the most so far. Good stuff.

Thank you for your response and the link to your video. Regarding your question, I am not an active trader. Perhaps your course is not for me. I have made some trades in the past through a retirement account but it was basically guess work and you don’t have to guess the results. I am interested in becoming a more active trader/investor and I’m looking at as much information as I can. I read your book, The Little Book of Trading, and I’m following up on some of the resources and names listed. Thank you for your interest.
