First, let me tell you how I learn and get boosted mentally from your podcast. I was on the path of systematic trading before I got to know about you but the great diversity of people and subjects of knowledge make your podcast a joy to listen to. Specially if you are in the business of increasing the confidence that one have in pursuing his own way of living and investing. Now, I tried to enter my appreciation about the podcast in iTunes but could not do it because we cannot see your podcast in the iTunes defined for Israel. If you would like a recommendation here, in LinkedIn, I would really be happy to give it to you.

Am I Just Getting Lucky?

Michael,

As my account is still small (although up 150% so far) I find that I’m trading a lot. I get signals every day and in 3 months have made 185 (counting opening only). I find my self getting stopped out of trades because I can’t take a full position and then getting back in when the market comes back.

I’m not going more than 2 units per trade and 5 units per sector on [entry and] out 2 ATR 2% unit model.

So it’s going well and I’m excited about that but want to make sure I’m not just getting really lucky as opposed to implementing a life changing trading strategy.

“Hungarian by birth, Nicolas Darvas trained as an economist at the University of Budapest. Reluctant to remain in Hungary until either the Nazis or the Soviets took over, he fled at the age of 23 with a forged exit visa and fifty pounds sterling to stave off hunger in Istanbul, Turkey. During his off hours as a dancer, he read some 200 books on the market and the great speculators, spending as much as eight hours a day studying. Darvas invested his money into a couple of stocks that had been hitting their 52-week high. He was utterly surprised that the stocks continued to rise and subsequently sold them to make a large profit. His main source of stock selection was Barron’s Magazine. At the age of 39, after accumulating his fortune, Darvas documented his techniques in the book, How I Made 2,000,000 in the Stock Market. Where Do I Go From Here?

Dear Michael, I admire what you do and can relate to the concepts shared in your podcast.

For the past 12 months I’ve been developing a trend following expert advisor. The EA is currently running on a small live account. However, due to the account size it will be quite some time before I can make a living from it, which is an impending problem for me with a young family.

The backtests suggest the EA has got a lot of potential, but I’m at odds about where to take it from here. I’ve gone it alone up until now. You’re the first person I’ve approached about this. Can you offer me any advice or guidance as to my next course of action?
