My question for you and I know you will laugh based on all of the above is: Can this style of trading work on a time frame such as Hourly or 4Hour? Or are markets too noisy and open for manipulation on such levels?

No. That’s not trend following at that time frame.

My guest today is Bent Flyvbjerg, the first BT Professor and inaugural Chair of Major Programme Management at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School and the Villum Kann Rasmussen Professor and Chair in Major Program Management at the IT University of Copenhagen. He has pioneered research in behavioral science, including power bias, strategic misrepresentation, optimism bias, the planning fallacy, and reference class forecasting. He is the founder and co-founder of a dozen highly successful research groups, degree programs, and startups.

The topic is his book written with co-author Dan Gardner: How Big Things Get Done.

I see it more than timing. A lot more. You need:

• Exact rules for selecting your tracking portfolio.
• Exact rules for entering your trades at the right time.
• Exact rules for exiting your trades with a loss.
• Exact rules for exiting your trades with a profit.
• Exact rules for how much money to bet on each trade.

Hi Michael,

I have bought a couple of your books – TurtleTrader and Little Book of Trading – and listened to them a few times on Audible. Very good and I love the idea of the trend trading approach I wish I’d known about this 20 years ago. I’ve just started listening to your podcast today and that is the reason for this email. I have started trading with my equity ISA account I have recorded the open close high and low positions for a few stocks as I’m not sure how to trade a whole market so thought I would start with something more familiar. Not doing great as yet but I love the model and will keep with it. You were saying on your podcast that you can send some tips via email to help people get started – this will be much appreciated as there are some points that are missing for me. I am in England and as yet I have not found a broker who does shorting – the broker I have doesn’t either. Looking forward to hearing from you.
