Hey Michael.

I’m a 32 year old carpenter from Norway. I started with trading in 2020 and have spent almost 6 years bouncing between strategies. Haven’t really lost money, but haven’t made any either. I am done with that. Now I trade a simple trend following strategy that I came up with. I didn’t invent it, but I didn’t see it on YouTube. 2 EMAs on the daily chart and I use the COT report as an indicator to follow the big money. My biggest challenge now is my patience and the fact that I don’t have anybody to talk to about it. After starting my trend following journey I discovered you and your books. So I am currently waiting for your trend following book and I’m listening to your podcast. I just need to tackle my mind.

Dear Michael,

In summary, my biggest flaw as a trader is the presumption that I understand where the market is going. Obviously, the market, which is more skilled and insidious than us retail traders, enjoys making fun of us and undermining our ambitions to get rich (at its expense) by giving us fierce beatings.

I don’t set stop losses because it feels like I’m giving my blood to a fundamentally greedy market. When I trade in a simulated environment, even without stops, the market is generous to me. But when I trade live, I take a beating. (Spikes terrify me) and I can’t seem to make any trading plan (which I keep changing) work to its full potential, and I’m never satisfied because I want to trade on instinct, but instinct almost always leads me into error.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for everything you have done in the trend following and podcast space. Your work is an unbelievable resource and has greatly impacted my mindset and outlook on life and markets.

I was wondering if you could speak in a monologue or bring it up in a future interview, the topic of what it’s like to go from up huge on a position and let it run and obey your rules, only to have it go back down to flat or even hit original stop for a loss. I am re-listening to turtle traders and this came up. I find it fascinating and by far the most challenging psychological component to trend following. If you have any anecdotes or remember any stories from over the years, I think it would be some great content and would love to hear it. I know you have a ton of podcast episodes and I have listened to many if not all, apologies if I have missed or forgotten anything similar.

Ciao Michael,

At 73 years old, I switched from crude oil to covered warrants. Sometimes it went well thanks to advice from reliable people, but often it went badly, especially when the covered warrants went up and the Italian reference titles went down. I’m talking about at least thirty years ago. Now, I focus intraday, only on two futures: the SP500 and the Nasdaq. I like open and close the trade every day and sleep in the night. I believe that even if you know the market well, it can always surprise you, let alone if you don’t know it. I’m not interested in getting rich at my age. I want to manage the few futures I trade decently and be proud of myself. Do you have any texts with Italian translations that focus almost exclusively on NQ and SP500?
