I am going to be in [City] October 23-28. So, I thought I would reach out to you to ask if you would be interested and/or have the time to meet. It could be a quick coffee/tea/breakfast/lunch, or whatever.
By way of background, I’m a professional portfolio manager investing globally in public market equities. I’ve been doing the job for 18 years.
Ironically, I have built my career, and achieved some success, through strict adherence to an investment discipline and process that is rooted in focusing on fundamentals. However, I am open-minded and always looking to refine the craft. I really enjoy exploring intellectual points of view with interesting people. I have to admit I have not yet read either your TurtleTraders or Trend Following books yet, but they are at the top of my “to-do” reading list. I do listen to all or your podcasts, however. So, although I can’t profess to being a student of trend following, I do find your perspectives, insights, opinions and thought processes stimulating and highly intriguing.
All participants in the world of finance, however loosely defined, must acknowledge that we are in strange times. I have certainly noticed the evolution. In my opinion it is not all for the better either. I can say for certain the role of the “active manager” has become more difficult, and that finding an “edge” has become exponentially more difficult in the last decade.
Anyway, that’s the finance stuff.
More generally, I am quite interested to learn more about your business, how you built it, and why you decided to relocate to [Country], among other things. From this distance, you appear to lead a very interesting life.
So, please let me know if you would entertain the idea of getting together for an informal chat while I am in your neck of the woods. I would be grateful and appreciative of any time you can spare.
Dinner sounds good!
