Become a Linchpin!

Feedback in:

Mike, I launched my trading account about two weeks ago focusing on a diversified basket of global ETFs. Solid success so far. I am hoping to get involved in a few investment conferences over the course of the next 6-12 months. Do you have any recommendations as to what might be worth attending? I have no idea as to which conferences are considered top-shelf.

Events by the Managed Funds Association might be the only place where you will hear any trend following info. And then it is hit or miss. There just is not much out there. What is your conference objective?

Primary objective is networking and developing a feel for the industry. My one and only professional interest is trading and I’m finding it a difficult field to break into.

What do you mean break in? Work for someone?

Right, or at least find something relevant to what I want to do, which is ultimately trade my own account for a living and possibly manage client money.

Can’t tell you the exact link, blog post, podcast episode etc. off top of my head, but I talk about these issues very regularly across my blog and podcast and trying to locate a trading job is never part of my advice. I would recommend Seth Godin’s Linchpin book. You will reach your goal faster.

  1. They do not want Trend Following speakers at Money Show’s, for example. You know that, and I have been dropped after speaking for over 10 years. Even though I made the cover of Timer Digest on May 13, 2013. Timer Digest recognized me as one of the Top Ten Timers in the country. I am not discouraged that people do not listen to my advice.
