So true.. movie reminds me of the book the success of opensource by steven weber. Telling the story of something that just seemingly shouldn’t work, works so well, and how those principles behind its working extend to more than just the open source movement.

Socialist propaganda. There are so many problems with this simplistic experiment, but it contains some truth which makes it a good lie.

  3. Trader Ken says:

So what are you saying Dan, that people are rational when it comes to money? lol. You and the economists…

  4. Trader Jim says:

While all of this may be true, it’s a complete fantasy because it falls apart when you get to the “pay people enough so that they don’t worry about money anymore” part.

Getting results using this method would require the majority of businesses to do a complete 180 degree move away from the way they treat workers currently; decades of downsizing and outsourcing to save money and increase the bottom line. Increasing productivity has taken a backseat to cutting costs to the bone (at least in the U.S.).

Until business schools and companies stop teaching and implementing this current method of running a business, you won’t see any type of autonomy to increase productivity, it will remain an academic fantasy.

@Dan – What is described is the opposite of socialism. It is anarchy. It is not CENTRAL control, it is NO control. And it works.

@Jim – 3M instituted 15% time “rule” in the 1950s. From this we have masking tape and sticky notes. Google is the innovative company of today that applies these principles with a 20% time “rule”.

  6. Atul says:

This is actual, it’s real – people want to make a difference in their lives, their world, especially students at university. Look at the advent of social entrepreneurs today.
